Dr Hergen Buscher has worked in the field of Intensive Care and Anaesthesia since 1995. Dr Buscher qualified as a specialist in these areas in Germany and in 2003 he moved to Australia. He completed his Australian credentials for Intensive Care Medicine at Westmead Hospital and then joined the team at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a Staff Specialist in 2008.
While working as an ECMO Fellow in Leicester, UK at the time of the CESAR trial, Dr Buscher became interested in extracorporeal circulation. Since 2014, he has been leading research at St Vincent’s Hospital which focuses on the transplant, VAD and ECMO activity. Dr Buscher also represents Australia in the steering committee of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation (Asio-Pacific Chapter) and has published in the field of extracorporeal life support, blood and coagulation management.
