Professor Alian Combes, MD, PhD is Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at the Sorbonne University of Paris, Pierre et Marie Curie, and head of the ICU department at the ‘Institut de Cardiologie’, Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière, Assistance Publique Hopitaux de Paris, France.

His main research interests are care of the critically ill cardiac patients (cardiogenic shock, acute myocardial infarction, complicated heart surgery and heart transplantation); mechanical circulatory assistance and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: rescue therapies for severe acute respiratory distress syndrome, including ECMO and ECCO2R; and pulmonary infections in mechanically ventilated ICU patients.

Professor Combes is a member of the Société de Réanimation de Langue Française (SRLF); the ESICM, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine; the ATS, American Thoracic Society; the European Society of Cardiology; and the Extra Corporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO).
