Chris Joyce is the Director of Intensive Care at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, and Associate Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the University of Quyeensland. He has trained as a specialist in both Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, and his PhD was in applied respiratory physiology. In 2009 he developed the ECMO programme at PAH in response to the H1N1 influenza pandemic and continues to lead this programme. He is the lead clinician on a Queensland Health project that is developing an ECMO retrieval service for Queensland. As a faculty member of the UQ Gradate Certificate of Critical Care Echocardiography, he has an interest in training intensivists in echocardiography.
