Professor Marc Maybauer is a consultant in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care medicine and lead for research in the Department of Anaesthesia at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester, UK. He is also appointed as Professor at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany and Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Marc completed medical school and residency training in anaesthesiology in Germany, fellowships in critical care medicine and research at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, USA. In addition he completed fellowships in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at Oxford University Hospitals and UHSM Wythenshawe, UK. Marc’s dissertation and habilitation were focused on acute lung injury and inhalation injury this led to the development of an interest in ARDS, circulatory shock and ECMO. Marc is currently working on a project investigating rescue veno-arterial-ECMO for patients with adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), which he will present at the Asia-Pacific-ELSO congress 2017.
